Eicher 5660 is a 50 HP water-cooled tractor with a dual clutch and centre-shift partial constant-mesh gearbox. Its engine category is close to several other Eicher choices, so a useful shortlist should compare operating layout and the actual implement package, rather than treating all 50 HP tractors as interchangeable.

Try the controls with the intended operator

The centre-mounted shift arrangement differs from the side-shift layout listed for the 557. Ask the operator to assess comfortable access to the gear lever and the controls needed during the repeated job. A familiar layout can be a preference, but comfort must be checked in the machine; it is not established by a brochure photograph.

The dual clutch and live PTO descriptions require a practical explanation of the prescribed engagement and stopping sequence. Ask for dealer familiarisation rather than assuming operation from another tractor. Do not infer independent PTO merely from the word dual.

Keep engine, shaft and ground speed separate

The official specification lists 540 PTO rpm at 1944 engine rpm, with multi-speed and reverse PTO. Match the attachment's approved input and shaft arrangement before selecting a mode. Reverse PTO is not a general instruction to clear a blocked implement while it is running.

The published maximum forward speed depends on the listed 16.9x 28 rear tyres. That figure is not a recommended transport speed or evidence of higher daily productivity. Ask for the working-speed chart that applies to the supplied tyres and choose the suitable ratio with the implement supplier.

Assess the whole combination

The manufacturer gives a 1910 mm overall width and 2100 kgf lift with lower links horizontal. Check access with the attached machine, and get approval for loaded weight, centre of gravity and ballast. Neither a gate measurement nor a lift figure substitutes for the other check. For ownership planning, obtain servicing requirements for the cooling system, clutch and transmission, plus a local consumables quote. The 45-litre tank does not reveal litres per hour or hours between refills under your load.
